We don't find words to express the deep loss we all feel! The news of Kato-Sensei's
passing still seems so unbelievable! We are
so deeply grateful from the bottom of our
hearts, for all he gave to us; knowing that we
have just a glimpse of what he taught - being
aware that his teachings will continue evolving
in us and transforming us, as we also know
that he will continue to teach all of us. He was
and continues to be such a wonderful Sensei,
on the mat but also off the mat, teaching us to
truly live from our hearts.
Our deepest condolences to you!
We are connected with you all through our prayers for Kato-Sensei, holding you all in
our hearts!
In deep gratitude forever,
Ursula & Jonathan & Stephan - Rocky Valley Aikido, California, US

To those who grieve the death of Kato Sensei, I add my expression of grief at his passing
and condolence to those closest to him. I met him in 2004 when I attended a seminar he
was leading. His aikido was amazing to me then as a beginning aikido student and is
even more amazing to me now as a nidan. He presided at my shodan and nidan exams,
led a number of seminars at which I was able to attend, and was a central influence on
the aikido of my teacher, Brian Heery. I travelled to Japan with my sons Paul and John to
train with Kato Sensei in 2006. This trip was a wonderful experience for all of us,
